Pulse

A project by sophia grancharova and boyana Djikova (curator)
14 october, 20:00 – revue at Swimming Pool
21 october,19:00 –  exhibition opening at posta

In Pulse, Sofia Gruncharova creates a collection of practical clothing and accessories designed for communities within protest groups. Her choice to focus on these communities is driven by her interest in civic causes. Protest groups, on one hand, embody constituent power through the direct exercise of the constitutionally guaranteed right to express opinions, but most often exist intensely and collectively around a specific event, only to disperse afterward.

During their active periods, however, they heavily rely on the characteristics of the body, which is “devoted” to a particular cause—its presence in a given square, its ability to occupy space, to cause inconvenience, to block movement, to generate noise through chanting. It is precisely the body that is the focus of Sofia’s work, which she approaches with care. The garments and accessories she creates will serve both protective and declarative functions (featuring written slogans and demands), thus facilitating the connection between body and message.

The collection will be presented on October 14 as part of the symposium at Swimming Pool, and the project will open at POSTA on October 21 (running until November 15). The pieces will be available for purchase online through the websites of POSTA and the Center for Social Vision.

The Pulse project is a collaboration between POSTA and the Center for Social Vision.

POSTA is a storefront gallery in the center of Sofia, accessible to the public at any time of day or night. The space was founded by Boyana Djikova and Vikenti Komitski, who emphasize experimentation and the site-specific nature of the exhibitions. Sofia Gruncharova is a visual artist with an interest in pop culture, the urban environment, and the human body. In her work, she fragments their images to present them in a new context and format. https://postaspace.org/
